Rescue crews worked quickly to help a family stranded in their flooded car near SE 89th and Harrah Road, late Saturday night.

Around 11 p.m., fire crews said a family of three attempted to cross a flooded street when the water lifted the vehicle and floated it toward a tree.

A dangerous situation became worse, when a man floated away from the vehicle.

The family worked together to throw him a line and waited on top of their vehicle for rescue crews to arrive.

A water rescue team was able to get life jackets to the family before pulling them to safety.

“The water is very deep even for our team it was higher than waist deep, and that water is fortunately rescinding at this time, but it was very swift, and like everyone whether it's been fire officials, PD, EMSA, or news crews we've been saying ‘turn around don't drown', all evening long,” said acting District Fire Chief Sean Cobb.

Fire crews said the family was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
