It's OKC's main entertainment district, but the city admitted Bricktown is starting to show its age in all the wrong ways. On Tuesday, OKC City Council voted through a $660,000 improvement plan for Bricktown.

The plan will include improvements to walkways, landscaping, staircases and new paint for bridges and railings for the entertainment hot spot. Improvements, including ADA ramps, may also become part of the project.

“There are general needs that have needed to occur for the last 16 years,” said OKC Public Works Dir. Eric Wenger.

The city said the changes are about adding character more than preventing crime, but part of Phase 2 includes improvements to lighting.

The second phase of the improvements will run about $800,000 and make the district's old broken gas lamps operational. The elevators will also be improved under phase 2 that still needs final approval.

Construction on Phase 1 is set to begin immediately and be completed by this summer.

Bricktown is also getting a logo change for the first time in years. The new logo will be released on Friday and reflect Bricktown's new targeted image of a vibrant district which includes fun for the whole family.
