Severe Weather Rips Through Oklahoma Wednesday

Severe storms bringing hail, high winds, and tornadoes ripped through the state of Oklahoma, Wednesday.

Severe storms bringing hail, high winds, and tornadoes ripped through the state of Oklahoma, Wednesday. All of which, has resulted in multiple injuries, power outages, and school closing.

It was late Wednesday afternoon, things began to take a grim turn and by 5:30 p.m. the first tornado was confirmed in northeastern Oklahoma near Keystone Lake.

Shortly after, a tornado touched down two miles west of the OKC Fairgrounds with multiple power flashes visible from the air. Damage reports of homes and buildings came in from the area of 7th and 10th at Rockell Ave.

Then, around 6:35 p.m., a tornado near SW 4th St. and crossed Interstate 35 in Moore. Then, another was spotted in the same pathway tornadoes took in Moore's 2013 tornado. 

There have been reports of significant damage and natural gas leaks. It also caused multiple car crashed and overturned vehicle including a semi on I-35. As a result Moore schools were canceled for Thursday. Also, the southbound lanes at I-35 and 4th Street were closed due to a traffic accident.

Several injuries were reported throughout Moore and in the NW OKC area.

Kelly Wells with Norman Regional Health Systems, told News 9 , there were six injured patients at Norman Healthplex, three injured patients at Norman Regional Hospital, and seven injured patients at Moore Medical Temporary Facility.

There are also, eight patients with injuries at OU Medical Center.

All injuries are said to be minor – glass cuts, debris injuries, one motor vehicle crash and injuries related to hail.

In total about ten tornadoes were reported in the state of Oklahoma. 

About 36,000 homes around the metro are without power. According to Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OG&E), there are approximately 18,550 homes in OKC, 6,100 in Moore, 2,000 homes in Warr Acres, 2,000 in Forest Park, and about 6,600 in Yukon.
