A retired K-9 deputy with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office had to be put down due to serious health concerns.
The Sheriff's office announced the passing of 14-year-old K-9 “Visum” on its Facebook page. Visum was euthanized on Monday.
Visum's handler, who does not want to be identified, offered a touching tribute to his partner,
"To you Visum, my friend, our journey in this life will end and I will forever be in your debt as my protector. My heart will forever have you in it and my love for you will never stop. I promise one day I will return to you and again I will stand by your side.
Thank you."
Before Visum was put to sleep, the Sheriff's office said he spent a final day at the lake with his handler, something they loved to do.
"Our K-9's are an important part of our family, and it's very difficult when one passes, especially for the handler who lived, worked, and had a long-lasting relationship with the dog", said Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel. "Visum was a hard working dog with a great nose for getting criminals off the streets."
