Oklahoma County Deputy Mark Vaughan was recognized at the State Capitol Thursday for his heroic efforts that saved lives during an attack at Vaughan Foods in Moore, Oklahoma, back in September, 2014.

According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office, Vaughan, who is also an executive at Vaughan Foods, was at work when he was notified of an attack taking place.

Vaughan immediately responded. He shot the suspect, Alton Nolen, who had just beheaded an employee and was attacking a second employee, ending the attack.  

Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel also announced at the State Capitol that Vaughan has been named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the National Rifle Association.
