The Sooners played perhaps their best half of the season as they surged past Iowa State 94-83 on Monday night in Norman.

While the second 20 minutes were a thing of beauty, the first 20 were mostly controlled by Iowa State. Dustin Hogue's layup with 5:09 to play in the first gave Iowa State its second 10-point advantage of the night and a 42-32 lead.

Oklahoma exploded and never cooled off. The Sooners closed the half on a 14-4 run and took a 46-all tie to the locker room. The second half was all Crimson and Cream. OU built its lead up to as high as 20 before taking the foot off the gas.

TaShawn Thomas played one of his best games as a Sooner with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Ryan Spangler added 14 points and 12 rebounds while Isaiah Cousins chipped in 19 points. Buddy Hield, OU's leading scorer, knocked in 17 points on 7-of-16 shooting.

Hogue led ISU with 19 points while Jameel McKay added 16 points and nine rebounds. Naz Long and Bryce Dejean-Jones each chipped in 14. Georges Niang, who came in averaging more than 15 per game, was held to just seven.

Oklahoma (17-7, 8-4) has now won five straight games in Big 12 play. The win vaults the Sooners ahead of the Cyclones (17-6, 7-4) in the conference standings. OU now sits one game back of Kansas and two in the loss column.

The Sooners head to the Octagon on Saturday to face struggling Kansas State. OU dropped a 66-63 overtime contest with the Wildcats back on Jan. 10 in Norman.
