A small earthquake shook up residents near Caldwell, KS., in Grant County late afternoon Thursday.

The 3.1 magnitude quake struck at approximately 4:48 p.m.

Its epicenter was located six miles south of Caldwell, 33 miles west southwest of Arkansas City, and 33 miles west northwest of Ponca City at a depth of just below two miles.

No injuries or severe damages have been reported as a result of the earthquake.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely with quakes at magnitudes 4.0 and higher.
