KINGFISHER COUNTY, Oklahoma - Investigators have released details of an officer-involved shooting in Dover. Police said an El Reno man pulled a knife on officers.

The suspect was shot twice in the chest and was recovering at OU Medical Saturday.

With crime scene tape still marking the spot, the talk around Dover was as noticeable as the flashing lights from the night before.

Police were on the scene at Chisholm Trail and Snider Lane investigating an officer-involved shooting.

A witness took video of the scene just seconds after the gun shots.

Investigators said the Dover Police Chief pulled over 37-year old Steven Andrew Smith on suspicion of drunk driving.

A Kingfisher County deputy provided backup. That's when reports stated Smith pulled out a knife. Officers made numerous demands for Smith to drop the knife.

But as the report showed, Smith then made a threatening gesture toward the officers and the deputy shot Smith in chest twice.

Smith was taken to the hospital where he was recovering Saturday.

But for something like this to have happened in a town where the average graduating class is about 15, many residents were left in dismay, especially those who live just feet away from where everything unfolded.

"It's crazy, nobody's ever heard of this going on in Dover,” said Francisco Hernandez, Dover resident.

Francisco Hernandez was unaware of what happened until he got a phone call from family.

"It's a scary thought having gun shots that close to your house and you're little brother and mom being home," said Hernandez.

Hernandez expected the worst.

"At first we were scared we didn't know we thought somebody was shooting at somebody, there's people running around shooting at people," said Hernandez.

He got home as fast as possible. The investigation was already underway practically in his own backyard.

"They were here late. Couldn't sleep with all the chaos outside," said Hernandez.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has taken the lead in the case. In the meantime, Hernandez said he and his family will try to wind down.

The name of the Kingfisher County deputy who reportedly shot Smith has not been released.
