The Oklahoma women's basketball team had surprised everyone with its 7-0 start to Big 12 play. Unfortunately, the Sooners' winning streak had to come to an end at some point.

Oklahoma didn't go down quietly, however, as Texas needed double overtime to finally take down the Sooners, 84-81.

The loss snapped the Sooners' eight-game winning streak, but thanks to the 7-0 start to conference play, Oklahoma still sits alone in second place in the conference, two games clear of third place Iowa State. For a young team picked to finish fifth in the conference in the preseason poll, that's not a bad place to be.

Ultimately, the Sooners simply ran out of gas, as four players fouled out and left Oklahoma with very little in terms of scoring options.

The Sooners lost Kaylon Williams (nine points) and Sharane Campbell-Olds (six points) in regulation, Maddie Manning (12 points) in the first overtime and Gioya Carter (16 points) in double overtime. Still, the Sooners were able to get off an attempt to tie the game at the buzzer, but Gabbi Ortiz's halfcourt heave was just wide off the backboard.

Ortiz finished with 13 points and Peyton Little had 16 points. It was Little who ensured the Sooners had a third opportunity to win the game in double overtime. Down 72-68 in the first overtime, Little scored six straight points, the last two with six seconds left, to tie the score at 74 and force a second overtime period.

The Sooners took a four-point lead with 3:19 left in the second overtime and looked to be in control. But the Longhorns rattled off an 8-1 run to grab an 82-79 lead with 1:05 to play, the last six points coming from Empress Davenport.

Ariel Atkins led the Longhorns with 21 points while Imani McGee-Stafford had 15 points and nine rebounds. Davenport and Brady Sanders each scored 13 points.

The Sooners are back in action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game at West Virginia.
