Shining Starz Cheer Team To Compete In National Competition

A special group of kids is getting ready to put their skills to the test in front of a national audience.

The Norman-based “Shining Starz” Special Needs Cheerleading Team will compete next month in a national competition in Dallas.

The “Shining Starz” is comprised of kids between the ages of 6 and 21 who have physical or mental disabilities.

Leslee Boswell is a former OU Cheerleader. She coordinates the “Shining Starz,” and her daughter Drew is on the team. “They are kids who happen to have a disability. But it doesn't stop them. They are amazing. They work through obstacles, and it's pretty incredible what they can do,” she said.

The team finished second in the “Special Needs” division in the national cheerleading competition last year. They are shooting for number one in Dallas on February 28th.
