The Oklahoma City Barons scored three second period goals in the span of 8:21 to down the Charlotte Checkers 3-1 Thursday night at Time Warner Cable Arena.

With the victory, the Barons earned their AHL-best 28th win of the season and became the first team in the league to eclipse the 60 standings point mark this season.

Newly named AHL All-Star Richard Bachman made 22 saves in net for the Barons to record his sixth consecutive decision and improve his season record to 13-3-3.

The only goal Bachman surrendered came in the first period when Chad LaRose took a pass from Ben Holmstrom that created a partial breakaway, with LaRose's shot ringing off the left post and trickling under Bachman for a 1-0 Checkers lead at 15:58 of the frame.

Oklahoma City's second period string of scoring began with another newly named Barons All-Star, as Andrew Miller recorded his 15th goal of the season at 4:03. On the power play due to a hooking penalty assessed to Charlotte's Kyle Hagel at 3:03, the Barons' Curtis Hamilton sent a shot from the right circle that Matt Ford rebounded and Miller eventually slid past Checkers goalie John Muse through a congested Charlotte crease.

The Barons took the lead at 9:11 of the second when Brad Hunt stripped the puck from Charlotte's Brendan Woods along the right side boards and skated toward Muse before lifting a shot high into the Checkers net to give OKC a 2-1 lead.

At 12:24 of the second, Travis Ewanyk increased the Barons' lead to 3-1 when he sent a shot on net that was initially blocked, grabbed his own rebound and fired another that sailed past Muse for his second goal of the season.

The teams meet again, Friday, Jan. 23, in a 6 p.m. start at Time Warner Cable Arena.
