Fire Crews Contain Grass Fire Near McLoud

Firefighters have contained a large grass fire near McLoud, Oklahoma, Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters have contained a large grass fire near McLoud, Oklahoma, Thursday afternoon.

According to the fire department, at about 1:30 p.m. crews responded to the fire in the area of S.E. 89th and Pottawatomie Road. 

Bob Mills SkyNews 9 HD was flying over the scene. Pilot Jim Gardner reported that this fire started on the south side of S.E. 89th and the east side of Pott. Road.  At one point, it was burning towards the east, threatening homes near Lakewood Circle.  Crews were able to stop the fire before it could reach the homes. 

Firefighters contained the fire at about 3 p.m. No homes were damaged. 

The fire has burned about 100 acres, Pilot Jim Garnder reported.  About 60 to 70 hay bales were also burned in the fire. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
