Investigators said they are still trying to figure out how Quinton Thompson got out of the house Sunday morning. They also said they have questions for the man who brought him to safety.

But one thing was certain Sunday afternoon; everyone could breathe a sigh of relief knowing he was in good condition after such a scary ordeal.

Stefannie Thompson experienced total panic Sunday morning when she discovered her son, Quinton, was missing.

“This is a parent's worst nightmare, is for their kid to disappear and not know where they're at, not know if they're OK. For every second to go by and if anything has happened to them not knowing if they ate or anything. It's just the worst thing ever,” she said.

Thompson told News 9 she went out with some friends Saturday night and her mother was watching Quinton. But she said when she got back to her home on S.E. 10th Street just before 5 a.m. Sunday, Quinton was gone.

“I realized that he wasn't in bed and I woke my mom up and said, ‘Where's he at?' and she said, ‘In bed, laying [sic] down,' and I told her, ‘No, he's not.'”

Thompson called police and dozens of units looked for him by land, air and water for more than six hours. Oklahoma City police even created a command post at a local school to stay organized.

And then around 11:30 a.m., police say a man brought the boy into a convenience store off 15th Street and Byers Avenue, where Teresa Estrada was working. She said the man told her he found the boy on 15th Street “wandering around.”

Estrada said she asked the boy several questions. And he answered that he was not cold, not hungry and not scared. According to Estrada, he also told her he knew the man and he was not the boy's friend.

“I said, ‘Quinton, where did you go when you left the house?' He said he walked over to the man's house,” Estrada explained.

With the cold temperatures and wind chill working against the outcome of the case, police said it was a happy ending.

“There was an insane amount of relief, definitely…We are all very excited,” said Officer Amanda Anderson with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Investigators said they would like to speak with the man who brought the boy to safety. He was the passenger of a white van. Investigators would also like to speak to the driver of that van. Anyone with information should call (405) 231-2121.
