Our next winter weather maker is over southern California right now and will track eastward overnight. This will pull in moisture starting in southern Oklahoma late tonight.

Best chances of wintry precip overnight will be in southern parts of the state in the form of freezing drizzle, sleet, and maybe a few flurries mixing in. Road conditions in this area are expected to deteriorate after midnight as more heavy freezing rain and sleet works its way in. There is only a 20 percent chance of a light wintry mix in OKC overnight.

This moisture is expected to lift further north and east through out the day Thursday with freezing rain/sleet likely from Ardmore to Ada to Sallisaw. This is the zone we are the most concerned about for accumulating ice, and possibly a few power outages.

Roads, especially bridges and overpass, will likely be slick along I-44 and points to the south and east. These conditions may improve just a bit if we climb up above freezing, but that warming window will be very narrow.

As of now, ice totals in central Oklahoma, including the OKC Metro, look light with highest amounts to the SE. However, a slight change in storm track could change this, and will need to be monitored throughout the day.

Precipitation moves out to the south and east through the overnight hours, but another wave of moisture will surge in through the day Friday. This will likely be a mix early transition to a cold rain.

On the back side we could see accumulating snow Saturday into early Sunday.

Check back for updates as this storm unfolds over the next several days.
