An earthquake rattled residents near the town of Cherokee, Okla., in Alfalfa County, Sunday night.

The 3.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded at approximately 9:40 p.m., nine miles east northeast of Cherokee, or about 98 miles north northwest of the Oklahoma City metro area, at a depth of three miles.

There have not been any reports of injuries or damage associated with this earthquake.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), earthquakes at magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely with quakes at magnitude 4.0 and higher.
