U.S. Senator Dr. Tom Coburn may be the greatest government spending watchdog this country has ever seen. But a new  CBS "60 Minutes" interview proves the retiring lawmaker may be one of America's most misunderstood politicians.

Lesley Stahl interviewed the retiring senator for the news magazine.

"It's time for a change. Republicans and Democrats alike," Coburn said. "I see 'em make decisions every day that benefit their career, rather than the country. And that's what's so sickening about Washington."

Lesley Stahl said Coburn has been called the Godfather of the Tea Party.  He doesn't believe in global warning and has been a staunch conservative on government spending.

So what does Coburn think of President Obama?

"I just love him as a man. He's a neat man. I'm proud of our country that we elected Barack Obama," Coburn he said.

See what else Sen. Coburn reveals to "60 Minutes," Sunday after NFL football on News On 6.
