Even Santa Claus is not immune to threat of scammers. Thieves are turning letters from Santa into a con.
The holiday season is here and so are the scams. The Better Business Bureau is warning about websites offering "Letters from Santa." It wants people to be on the lookout for emails and websites promising to send their child a handwritten letter from Santa after the parents pay a fee.
The BBB says it's a scam, and after parents provide their credit card information, thieves can then use it to make fraudulent purchases.
The organization says there are other versions of the Santa Letter scam, including one that does not seek payment but does collect a lot of personal information.
Scams are on the increase this time of year. So remember to ignore calls for immediate action, like "Pay Now." You can also hover links in emails to check where they are coming from.
The number one tip -- look for poor grammar and spelling. Scams are often filled with typos.
