A metro high school marching band was in the spotlight on Thursday marching in Chicago's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Moore High School band found out about the honor about six months ago and had three short weeks after football season to prep for Thursday's march.

“We're a big family. Our band is a big family so we endure together,” said Moore High School Band Director Clint Brown.

Enduring the bitter cold temperatures Thursday morning and spending the holiday away from family. This is the band's second grand scale parade. Two years ago they marched in the Washington D.C. Fourth of July parade.

“After a year's hiatus of doing parades we decided you know what, let's do another parade. Let's got to Chicago this time for Thanksgiving,” said Brown.

Two directors and about a dozen brave parents took the 175 students up to Chicago. After a few days of sight seeing the band had an early start Thursday morning.

“They were really excited to get up and do it. We got up about 5:45 this morning and we left the hotel about 6:45 and then we actually stood at the staging area in the cold, I believe it was about 20 degrees for about before we actually started to march,” he said.

The band played an arrangement of Winter Wonderland as they marched down State Street. It even started to look and feel that way as flurries fell from the sky.

“When you are marching in Chicago you're marching between these huge skyscraper buildings, like you're marching in a canyon. And there are thousands of people, tens of thousands of people lining the street both sides. It was really a cool experience,” said Brown.

Checking D.C. and Chicago off their marching list the band now has its sights on the most famous Thanksgiving Day Parade.

“You know after doing this one we might try out our hand at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York,” he said.
