With the chance of arctic air on the way, the Oklahoma City Public Schools District needs your help getting coats for students who may not be able to afford one.

News 9 Meteorologist Jed Castles says next week, winter-like temps will arrive. When that happens, unfortunately, there are thousands of students in Oklahoma City Public schools who may struggle to stay warm.

It is all part of The Coats for Kids Program or Operation Warm, which collects donations of new winter coats or donations to buy winter clothes.

Those coats will be given to students in the OKCPS district who are in need. And to give you a sense of how widespread this problem is, about 36,000 kids in the district who live at or below the poverty line.

The campaign has raised more than $71,000, but is short of the more-than $130,000 goal.

Now, according to the organization's website, a donation of $20 will provide a coat for one student, and $500 helps an entire classroom.
