Two people drowned after the car they were in crashed into a neighborhood pond in northwest Oklahoma City, Thursday night.

According to police, neighbors said they saw the vehicle travel through the neighborhood at a high rate of speed, lose control and drive into the 15 ft. deep pond in the 12000 block of Heritage Oaks Drive.

Fire officials said one person escaped the vehicle uninjured. But two others were trapped in the 15 foot deep pond. Rescue crews spent about an hour searching for the two, and dive teams eventually recovered their bodies around  10 p.m.

Friday morning, police identified the two victims as 18-year-old Marlin Green, who was driving the car, and 18-year-old Charles Huddleston, a passenger in the car.

According to police, the owner of the car, who has not been identified, was the one who survived. He had just bought the vehicle and let Green drive him and Huddleston through the neighborhood.

Police said the car was traveling at a high rate of speed down a road that comes to a dead end. Green attempted to stop, but failed and drove off the roadway and into a small man-made pond.

The owner of the vehicle was able to get out and swim to the shore. Green and Huddleston were able to get out of the car, but could not swim. They eventually drowned when the vehicle sank to the bottom of the pound.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department's dive team arrived and recovered the two victims.

Neighbors told News 9 that this part of the area is new, and the area can be difficult to navigate.
