Oklahoma City police are looking for clues after a man is found dead in a northeast Oklahoma City park.
This happened near NE 27th and Prospect. Oklahoma City police say it was a person walking through Phillips Park Monday morning who found the body and called 911.
Police say the body was found on the ground near a park bench by the basketball courts on the east side of the park. Both police and the Medical Examiner's office worked quickly to get the body out of the rain and clear the crime scene. But for now the motive behind the murder remains a mystery.
“Investigators are speaking to neighbors for information,” said Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
“There's several houses here around this park, so we would encourage any of them to come forward if they have any information.”
Many of the people who live near the park were not home at the time of the discovery. And those who were did not want to talk on camera, but did confirm they knew about the body being found across the street.
For now police have not named any suspects or made any arrests, and are currently working on identifying the victim.
This part of town has seen its fair share of crime. News 9 checked and police have been called out to this area more than 4,000 times in the past year alone, but a murder at Phillips Park is a first for this area.
Police are asking anyone with information to call their homicide tip line at (405) 297-1200.
