A man leaped out of a moving SUV and the driver kept going as Catoosa Police tried to pull it over on the I-44 entrance ramp in front of the Hard Rock Casino Friday morning.

Officers say the man jumped out of Chevy Suburban and the female driver kept going onto I-44 headed west.

The officer trying to make the traffic stop concentrated on the man and let the SUV go.

Police Chief Kevin McKim said the man leaped over a retaining wall and into a 20-foot deep concrete drainage ditch next to the highway. Police believe the man may not have known the ditch was there until it was too late.

Police called the fire department so officers could use a ladder to get the man out.

News On 6 photojournalist Michael Woods was interviewing Chief McKim when officers got word Tulsa Police had stopped the Suburban at the Sinclair truck stop at I-44 and 165th East Avenue.

McKim finished the interview, saying the woman who was driving it now faces multiple complaints including eluding, unsafe lane change and not using her seat belt.

Paramedics took the man to a Tulsa hospital, but police have not released his condition.
