A lengthy standoff in Weatherford ended without a suspect in custody. The Weatherford Police Chief said Thursday morning the suspected gunman was not inside the home they were surrounding.

According to police, at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the report of a shooting at a mobile home in the 600 block of E. Rainey. Witnesses told police that the suspect, 37-year-old Deondrae J. Jones, had shot multiple times from inside the home through the window.

Roger Gaston, who was standing outside the mobile home at the time, was shot in the leg. He was transported to the hospital and was said to be in stable condition.

According to the Weatherford Daily News, witnesses said Jones shot the victim over a car deal gone bad.

Witnesses told police that Jones did not leave the mobile home and was believed to still be in the home armed with a weapon. Officers said they tried to made contact with Jones, and they did not get a response. That's when a police standoff began.

Police said they requested assistance from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Tact Team. At about 12:10 a.m. Thursday, authorities went into the home and confirmed that the suspect was not inside.

Investigators said that Jones had fled the Weatherford area. He is believed to be heading to Frederick in Tillman County.
