One person is in critical condition and two others injured after a single-vehicle crash on a rural road in Stephens County early Sunday morning and troopers say alcohol may have been a factor.

According to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), 27-year-old Bradley Burckhalter was driving a 1994 Honda Accord westbound on Refinery Rd. around 1:30 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the road.

The vehicle collided with some boulders and rolled one time, ending up on its wheels. Two other people were in the vehicle with Burckhalter, Tobey Copeland, 23, and Rebecca Thomas, 21, both from Duncan, Okla.

Burckhalter was transported by ambulance to Duncan Regional Hospital where he was treated and released. Thomas was transported to Duncan Regional, then transferred to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City where she was treated and released.

Copeland was transported to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City via medical helicopter. He is listed in critical condition.

Burckhalter and Copeland were wearing seatbelts, but Thomas was not. Investigators listed the cause of the collision as DUI.
