A metro strip club owner wants his unlicensed competition shut down. The owner said it’s about to put him out of business, and now he wants his say in an Oklahoma City lawsuit. The lawsuit is the latest in the city’s crackdown on illegal strip clubs.

Keith Edward owns Cat Ballou Strip Club off SE 29th. He said his business is losing money and clients because of a nearby strip club called Red Night Lights Gentlemen’s Club, located just west of I-35.

Edward said his competition has been unlicensed, and not in compliance with the state adult entertainment laws, for nearly a decade.

“Our business has been dead for years, and that’s why we’ve been so upset,” said Edwards.

Cat Ballou Strip Club has been in business since 1975 and is the oldest strip club in Oklahoma City. Edwards said he’s surrounded by illegal competition, and he’s been fighting it for years.

“I have served the mayor, the chief of police. I’ve sent letters and communications to the council members. I’ve done as much as I could do short of filing a lawsuit,” said Edwards.

Edwards has filed dozens of complaints over the course of nearly six years to the city’s action center.

“I’m seeking one interest only, and that is to comply with the adult entertainment laws,” said Edwards. “They are not currently zoned for it; they have not been approved for it.”

City leaders have filed a lawsuit against Red Night Lights. The city wants to ban stripping at that location. Edwards wants to jump in on that lawsuit.

“They have been operating for seven years, illegally, and I’m just simply seeking to shut that activity down,” said Edwards.

News 9 is told attorneys representing Red Light Nights are fighting the lawsuit.

News 9 reached out to the city’s attorney, but have not heard back. We learned the city does not want Edwards to be part of the lawsuit.
