According to Yahoo Sports, Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook has removed himself from the Team USA roster for this summer's World Cup in Spain.

Westbrook was a member of the 2010 world championships team and '12 Olympic squad, which both won gold medals.

Westbrook dropping out comes as no surprise given his three knee surgeries in the past 14 months. The commitment to the World Cup team is a big one, spanning training camp in July, exhibition play in August and the tournament in September.

Westbrook played in 46 of the Thunder's 82 regular season games in his injury-shortened campaign, averaging 21.8 points, 6.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game in 2013-14.
