Thunder Falls To Memphis In Summer League Opener

The Oklahoma City Thunder fell in its Orlando Summer League debut on Saturday, losing to the Memphis Grizzlies, 84-63.

Perry Jones led the Thunder with 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Jeremy Lamb added 14 points, but was just 1-of-7 from 3-point range. No other Thunder players scored in double figures, but Semaj Christon and Mitch McGary each had eight points.

Jordan Adams led Memphis with 22 points. Kalin Lucas had 11 points while Jarnell Stokes, Jamal Franklin and Jarrid Famous all had 10 points.

Neither team shot the ball well, as Memphis hit just 37 percent of its shots and OKC hit just 39.2 percent.

Here are some more observations from the game:

-Thunder first round pick Mitch McGary was impressive in his Thunder debut. He didn't score a ton, but showed confidence shooting the ball and showed some impressive post moves. Most of all, he played with terrific energy and hustle. Fans comparing him to Nick Collison won't be disappointed.

-Perry Jones was very impressive offensively for OKC. Now, the biggest question is if Jones has improved over the past month or so, or if he always had that ability and Scott Brooks just refused to give him minutes. It's probably a little of both. Jones is a very good athlete, but his game has needed some refinement. Saturday showed it's definitely on the upswing and Jones could be a big contributor for the Thunder next season if it keeps up.

-The turnover story looked like a Thunder regular season game. 27 total turnovers for the Thunder on Saturday against just 10 for Memphis.

-Josh Huestis played nine minutes and made one of his four shots. It was a putback dunk that was really pretty impressive. He also grabbed two offensive rebounds and played good defense. Not a bad start for the highly-questioned first round pick.

-Speaking of defense and rebounding, Andre Roberson showed out in a big way in those categories. Roberson grabbed a game-high eight boards and played solid defense. He committed six fouls, though, so he needs to continue to work on being aggressive without fouling. Offensively, he's definitely still a work in progress. He hit just 2-of-6 from the field, 1-of-5 from the free throw line and had five turnovers.

-Semaj Christon will prove to be a nice pickup for the Thunder in the future. He's a gifted player with an offensive mentality and good court vision. Lots of improvement needed, but potentially a big get for OKC.

-Steven Adams completed a tattoo on his left forearm that had the NBATV commentators talking for several minutes. Adams suffered a right shin contusion in the first quarter, but returned after halftime. Surprisingly, he didn't tick anyone off in his 17:32 of court time.

-Next up: OKC takes on Philadelphia on Sunday at 4 p.m.
