A rash of vandalism in a residential neighborhood just South of downtown in Chickasha has police and homeowners on high alert.

Detectives think they know who is responsible for the many spray paint marks on cars, fences and even the sides of homes but no arrests have been made.

"Obviously you've got a problem and you need to find somebody to talk to and find something better to do," said homeowner Ray Belville, "We'll get it back where it was before but the sad thing is the kids feel like they need to do that."

Belville's fence was spray-painted with graffiti earlier in the week. Many others said they were furious and frustrated

"It's just, I hope it doesn't happen again soon because it's kind of depressing," said Louise Brown, who lives just blocks from Belville.

Brown's property was also tagged by the vandals. It was the same reaction up and down the neighborhood, homeowners woke up to spray-paint on their stuff.

Every single bit of graffiti mark will cost these homeowners money. Police put the damage around the neighborhood at more than $3,000. The individual incidents ranged from $100 to more than $1,000. On top of that, officers had to spend time responding to each report.

"It's a tremendous waste of resources, it sure is," said Belville.

Now some homeowners sit on edge, worried they'll be hit again by the vandals.

"I don't know. I've never been through this before. And I've lived in this same neighborhood for probably 25 years," said Brown. "When I sit out there, it's going to make me think twice you know, about what's going on and I'll keep a closer eye."

Police think they know who is responsible and I'm told detectives are working on securing arrest warrants. Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call Chickasha police.
