Sand Springs police arrested a woman for felony child abuse after they say she smashed a bowl of hot grits into the side of her daughter's head. Arayanna Charnaye Gordon was taken into custody at a women's shelter where she was living with her 2-year-old child.

Police say they were called to the shelter on Sunday afternoon.

Another resident told officers that the 23-year-old Gordon began yelling at her daughter when the little girl dropped a bowl of grits on the floor. The witness said Gordon picked up the Styrofoam bowl with hot grits and "slammed it" into the side of the girl's head, hard enough to almost knock over the child's booster seat.

When police questioned Gordon, she reportedly said, "I didn't even want my daughter anymore! I am tired of her and was going to give her away anyway!"

Gordon was also booked into the Tulsa County Jail on a complaint of resisting arrest. She is being held in lieu of a $40,500 bond.

The little girl was taken to the Laura Dester Children's Shelter.
