A major safety upgrade will take place on a busy metro road and it will last for quite a while.

You'll see workers soon on the Kilpatrick Turnpike. Work is already underway on the Kilpatrick Turnpike to install cable barriers.

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority hopes this will prevent cars from crossing into on-coming traffic.

Jim Gardner and Bob Mills Sky News 9 was overheard the construction project. The cable barriers will be installed on seven-and-a-half miles from mile marker 117 to 124 and from 132 to 135.

Installation will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and at times overnight. This is expected to be completed within 99 days or three months.

The OTA approved $2 million in funding for the cable barriers. The Director of the OTA says on portions on the turnpike that have these barriers, they have prevented 97 potential accidents.
