RedHawks Roll Past Memphis

Domingo Santana homered twice and the Oklahoma City RedHawks offense kept rolling with 10 runs and 15 hits, beating the Memphis Redbirds, 10-4, Saturday night at AutoZone Park.

Over the first two games of the series, the RedHawks (28-22) have tallied 22 runs and 37 hits. It's the first time they've scored 10 or more runs in consecutive games since July 24-25, 2012, both against Iowa. The RedHawks are now batting .355 over the past five games and have scored 42 runs.

The game was slightly rain-shortened, as play was halted when heavy rains descended during the ninth inning. Following a 36-minute delay, the contest was officially called with two outs in the top of the ninth.

The Redbirds (23-26) took a quick 1-0 lead, scoring three batters into the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single by Oscar Taveras.

The RedHawks would tie the game on the first pitch of the second inning, as Santana blasted his first home run to the top of the bluff in left field.

Two batters later, Adron Chamber gave the RedHawks the lead, hitting a solo home run to right field for his second homer of the season.

Santana struck again in the third. With a runner aboard and two out, Santana lifted a high fly ball that landed in the RedHawks bullpen in right-center field to make it 4-1.

It was the fifth multi-homer game of Santana's career, and the first by a RedHawk since George Springer went deep twice in Round Rock on July 9, 2013.

Ronny Torreyes collected a RBI single in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-2. Torreyes finished 2-for-5 and is now 7-for-10 over the past two games.

The Redbirds cut into the lead in the fifth when a wild pitch by Mike Foltynewicz plated a run.

The wild pitch was a small blemish in an otherwise solid outing for Foltynewicz, who turned in his fourth consecutive quality start. Foltynewicz (4-3) allowed two runs and four hits over six innings. He struck out three and walked four.

The RedHawks began to pull away with four runs in the seventh. With the bases loaded and two out, Carlos Perez belted a double to center field to clear the bases. Perez reached base four times and had a season high three hits and three RBI.

Two batters after Perez, Robbie Grossman lined a RBI double to right field. Chambers got the RedHawks into double digits with a sac fly in the eighth.

Memphis made some noise again in the eighth inning, but not quite to the extent they did on Friday night. Four straight Redbirds reached base with one out, including a two-run single by Xavier Scruggs.

Before the Redbirds could get any closer, Rhiner Cruz came out of the bullpen and retired the next two hitters to end the inning.

Memphis starting pitcher Zach Petrick picked up the loss after allowing five runs and a season-high 11 hits over 5.2 innings. Petrick (2-2) had not allowed more than six hits in a game prior to Saturday, and he had allowed just one home run all season before the RedHawks went deep three times. He registered four strikeouts and did not issue a walk.

The RedHawks have now won four of five games and will look to win a third straight in Memphis Sunday at 6:05 p.m. Jake Buchanan will put his 26.0 consecutive scoreless innings streak on the line when he makes the start for Oklahoma City.
