A homeless woman claims she was beaten and raped near the City Rescue Mission.

The victim says the attacker threatened to kill her if she told police. The victim did not heed that warning and reported the incident to staff at the City Rescue Mission.

"Homeless people are vulnerable, especially when they are out on the street," President of City Rescue Mission Tom Jones said.

The rescue mission staff called Oklahoma City police in to investigate the claims. The homeless woman told investigators she left the rescue mission, a secure facility, on Friday night after she had a verbal altercation with another resident.

She was sleeping in a truck across the street when she first encountered her attacker. She said 49-year-old Carl Nero choked her and yelled, "I've been looking for you."

The victim said she didn't know Nero before the attack.

She claimed he beat her and then forced her into an alley near Sheridan and California Avenue.

Although several people were reportedly in the area, she claimed no one tried to help her as the attacker shoved her head into a brick wall.

During her attempts to get free, Nero allegedly slapped her and yelled, "Don't you know I could kill you right now."

Nero is also accused of forcing the victim to stay and sleep next to him in the alley he calls home. Eventually, she went back to the rescue mission for help.

"She is realizing that this is probably the safest place that she could be in this scenario of her being homeless," Jones said.

The victim is now staying in the emergency women's shelter at the City Rescue Mission.

"We have simply just walked this with her, making sure she has a safe place to stay while she is processing it with the authorities,"Jones said.

Police said it is an ongoing investigation. Nero was arrested and booked in to the Oklahoma County Jail. His bond is set at $75,000.
