Barons Rally To Beat Iowa In Regular Season Finale

The Barons wrapped up the regular season Saturday night with a 3-2 shootout win over the Iowa Wild at the Cox Convention Center.

The Oklahoma City Barons wrapped up the regular season Saturday night with a 3-2 shootout win over the Iowa Wild at the Cox Convention Center. Frans Tuohimaa made his Barons debut in net and turned away 38 of the 40 shots he faced.

Iowa opened the scoring on a goal from Dylan Labbe at 8:59 of the first period. Jake Dowell and Carson McMillian earned the assists on the goal that gave the Wild a 1-0 lead. Iowa led in shots 12-4 at the end of the first period.

A scoreless second period saw the Wild maintain its 1-0 lead at the intermission. Iowa stretched the shots lead to 22-15 at the end of the period.

Jordan Oesterle scored his first career professional goal at the 7:43 mark of the third period to even the score. Austin Fyten and Tuohimaa earned the assists on the goal.

Iowa regained the lead at 12:57 as Tyler Graovac found the back of the net to put the Wild up 2-1. Curtis Hamilton rifled a shot from the point that Martin Gernat tipped past Johan Gustafsson to even the score at 2-2 at the 16:48 mark of the third. Kellen Jones earned the secondary assist on the goal.

After a scoreless overtime period, Oklahoma City won the shootout 3-2 with goals from Jack Combs, C.J. Stretch and Joshua Winquist to win the game 3-2.

The Oklahoma City Barons take on the Texas Stars in the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs. The best-of-five Western Conference quarterfinal series starts in Oklahoma City on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT. Game 2 is Saturday at 8 p.m.
