Oklahoma's Own News 9 (KWTV) was recently announced as a semi-finalist for the 2014 Celebration of Service to America awards by The National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF). News 9 was recognized for its coverage and relief efforts during the May 2013 tornado outbreak. The awards recognize outstanding community service by local broadcasters.

During the May 2013 tornado event, News 9 broadcast 36 hours of commercial free weather coverage to inform and warn viewers of dangerous weather conditions. Within one week of the May 19 tornado, News 9 raised more than $1.5 million in cash and in-kind donations to help community members affected by the deadly storms.
