For the first time in program history the University of Oklahoma landed the No. 1 spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's weekly ratings.

"We are excited about what our first No. 1 ranking does for our program," OU head coach John Roddick said. I know it's exciting and motivating for our guys."

With that in mind, Roddick and his team know they're far away from their goals, including a deeper run in the NCAA Championships.

"We are also very aware that we are only at the midpoint of the season and we have a lot of goals to achieve that are still ahead of us."

The Sooners started 2014 at No. 10 and climbed up the rankings having not lost since Feb. 15 against then top-ranked UCLA. Since then, the Sooners have racked up six wins against top-25 teams, including an upset victory over then No. 1 Ohio State March 7.

In addition to their No. 1 ranking, Oklahoma also boasts numerous players ranked in ITA's singles poll. Sophomore Axel Alvarez rose from No. 3 to No. 2, Guillermo Alcorta came in at No. 5, and Dane Webb and Andrew Harris landed the No. 43 and No. 35 spots, respectively.

The Sooners are looking to extend their win streak to nine, when they face No. 46 Pepperdine, March 19 in Malibu, Calif.
