Authorities say no criminal charges will be filed after a massive pileup on Interstate 25 in Denver that left one woman dead and sent 30 others to the hospital.

Denver police said Friday three cars initially lost control as a short but intense burst of snow slammed the area March 1. A tractor-trailer crashed into them, triggering the 104-car pileup along a roughly 2-mile stretch of the interstate.

Investigators say traffic had been flowing normally, and none of the motorists could have anticipated the rapid change in weather. Moisture from the storm, combined with a cold front that moved into Colorado the night before, made for whiteout conditions and slick roadways across the state.

Authorities say 61-year-old Rebecca Newkirk of Stillwater was killed in the crash.
