News 9 learned on Thursday that former State Senator Randy Brogdon will run for the U.S. Senate seat left open by U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn's resignation.

Brogdon, who was considering challenging Gov. Mary Fallin for Governor this year, is now campaigning for Oklahoma's open U.S. Senate seat. He filed a "statement of candidacy" with the Federal Election Commission on Feb. 12.

Coburn said his decision was not related to his battle with prostate cancer. Instead, he said he's a "citizen legislator," who was committed to serving no more than two terms in the Senate.

Several others, including Rep. James Lankford, Oklahoma House Speaker T.W. Shannon, have announced that they will also run for this open U.S. Senate seat.
