Oklahoma Christian University (OC) will host two members of the "Little Rock Nine" as part of the McGaw Lecture Series Monday evening.

"History Speaks: Little Rock Nine" will feature Little Rock Nine members, Carlotta Walls LaNier and Terrence Roberts, two of nine teenagers who integrated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 25, 1957.

That September day, 9-year-old LaNier and 15-year-old Roberts were escorted through a hostile crowd by the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division.

"In the midst of one of the most turbulent times in this country's history, it's amazing that we found strength in the most unlikeliest of places – in a group of nine kids," said Gary Jones, OC's Multicultural and Service Learning Coordinator. "Even in the face of injustice, prejudice and inequality, their story of perseverance will live forever. The Little Rock Nine helped lead the charge of equality in education and opportunity for education in America."

As the Little Rock Nine Foundation President, LaNier speaks at venues across the country about her experiences as a pioneer of school integration.

Roberts is the Chief Executive Officer of Terrence J. Roberts & Associates management consultant firm and maintains a private psychology practice.

LaNier and Roberts have both received the Spingarn and Congressional Gold medals.

"History Speaks: Little Rock Nine" will start at 7 p.m. on February 24 in the Hardeman Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required.
