OKC Single Mom Battling Cancer Hopes For Wish To Come True

A single mother in Oklahoma City is still hoping her Christmas wish will come true. She was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer right before Thanksgiving, and is now on the verge of being evicted from her home.

Now, she's hoping some generous Oklahomans will help her and her daughter make it through this tough year.

This has been a tough year for them. First, their apartment was flooded during the May 31 storms, and then they got the devastating cancer diagnosis.

But the young mother and her daughter are strong in their faith, and already have some guardian angels looking out for them.

Eight-year-old Ke'mya Blakley is enjoying her Christmas presents, and her mother Akia Wilson is just grateful she is here to witness it.

You see, Christmas almost didn't happen for them until some nurses taking care of Wilson chipped in to provide presents, food and money.

"I'm so grateful, like I said, it's not just that my nurses are taking care of me physically, but mentally and emotionally, as well," Wilson said.

A friend heard about Wilson's situation and created a fundraising page to try to help the young mother raise the money she will need to get by the next couple of months.

It's already received several supporters who pledged $200, but much more is needed.

Wilson was diagnosed with Lynch's syndrome and stage 3 colon cancer in November, and had surgery the day before Thanksgiving. Doctors believe they got most of the cancer out, but Wilson still has to go through six months of chemotherapy.

She just wants to be well enough to go back to work and be able to take her daughter to and from school.

Turns out, those nurses from the Mercy Foundation did donate enough money to pay for Wilson's rent this month. They just hope others can help pay for January, too.
