Shawnee Police search for a gunman who shot a man six times Monday night.

Officers found 25-year-old Javaughn Smith bleeding from the gunshot wounds inside his wrecked car in the 1200 block of Alice in Shawnee.

Smith was in critical condition at last check. He's been through several surgeries and is being heavily sedated at a local hospital.

Meanwhile, Smith's family and friends are trying to make sense of it all.

"We were totally in shock," Tiffany Frazier had to see the crime scene for herself. "I don't think I want to believe this could happen. Who would do this to a sweet person?"

Frazier could think of no one who would want to hurt Smith. The idea of Smith being shot five times in the torso and once in the face was even more unnerving for Frazier.

Shawnee Police said Smith was sitting inside his car in the driveway when he was shot. Smith then called 911 for help and even tried to get away from the scene but officers found his car stuck in a nearby ditch.

Paramedics rushed Smith to the hospital.

"He is a fighter and he will pull through I know God is working miracles right now," Frazier said.

Investigators hope Smith's recovery will help them determine a motive for the shooting. At this point there are no witnesses or suspects in the case.

If you have any information call Shawnee Crimestoppers at 405.273.0989.
