Police arrested a man who is accused of burglarizing an apartment in Ardmore, and shooting and killing a dog early Tuesday morning.

According to Ardmore police, at about 4 a.m. officers responded to the report of a burglary at the Big 5 Apartments. Several personal items, including clothes and underwear, were stolen from the victim.

As officers were investigating the burglary, they heard three gunshots in the same neighborhood, and received a phone call from an elderly woman saying someone had just shot her dog.

Officers then responded to the shooting in the 1200 block of 4th NE. The dog had three bullet wounds and died at the scene. The motive of the shooting is unclear.

Police say the description of the vehicle and suspects in both the burglary and shooting were very similar and believed to be the same.

According to police, a car matching the description of the suspect vehicle was parked in front of a home on Burton SE. As officers arrived at that house, the suspect, later identified as Octavius Godwin, ran from the car and locked himself in the house.

Officers were able to get a search warrant for the home and take Godwin into custody. During the investigation, police recovered several bags of marijuana from the car. The marijuana was packaged in a manner associated with the selling of marijuana.

Officers also recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting of the dog. At this time, police say motive for the shooting and burglary are unclear.

Godwin was arrested on charges of use of a motor vehicle to facilitate the discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm after former felony conviction and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The two car passengers, DasJaa Booker and a 15-year-old girl, were released after being interviewed. They will be charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
