Oklahoma State's 12th-ranked basketball team led by as many as 26 points, but settled for a 10-point win as the Cowboys defeated Campbellsville 80-70 in Stillwater Sunday afternoon in exhibition action.

"I thought Campbellsville played very well and very hard," OSU coach Travis Ford said. "They were scrappy. There's not a whole lot to be proud about with our team that I thought we did particularly well at all. There's a good opportunity from this game to watch some film and learn about the situations we can learn from, so that's a big positive."

Senior guard Markel Brown scored a team-high 13 points, pacing six players with at least nine points each. Sophomore forward Kamari Murphy had 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while junior forward Michael Cobbins and freshman guard Stevie Clark had 10 points each.

The Cowboys struggled early, and seemed tentative on defense, most likely due to the new defending rules put in place this season. OSU allowed Campbellsville to shoot 37 percent from the floor, including 10-of-25 (40 percent) from beyond the arc.

"I think most of us have work to do," Brown said. "(Our) defense wasn't great at all, we played as if we couldn't touch anybody out there. We have to go back to being a physical ball club."

Oklahoma State had just four turnovers at halftime, but committed 10 miscues after intermission. The Pokes also had just one assist in the second period.

"We have goals for this team, how many turnovers-to-assists that we want, and right now we're in the negative column," Brown said. "We want that flip-flopped. Tonight, we just came out there throwing the ball around carelessly. Things we are going to get back in practice and work on."

Le'Bryan Nash did not play in the first half because of disciplinary reasons.

The Cowboys will host their final exhibition game of the preseason on Friday evening as they entertain the Emporia State Hornets. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
