My 2 Cents: Government Shutdown And The WWII Museum

The government shutdown is about politics. The World War II Memorial is about heroes. And it is a disgrace the way the politicians are using the Memorial to the greatest generation for PR leverage against the other side.

This is what it looked like today when hundreds of WWII vets who flew to Washington aboard Honor Flights, ignored the barricades and entered their national Memorial.

I've been there on an Honor Flight and if you ever walked through the Memorial with a World War II vet, you'd make sure that place is never closed. Reportedly Park Rangers have said the White House Office of Management & Budget ordered the closing of the WWII Memorial.

If so, it was purely to make the Republicans look bad by closing up these national treasures with little regard to the people who paid for them and who might have traveled thousands of miles to see them for the only time in their lives.

I can understand that the White House might have done this out of frustration at what appears to be one last ditch effort to block the Healthcare Law from going into effect. But taking it out on World War II veterans is gross political miscalculation.
