A man from Henryetta, Oklahoma, was killed after he fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed his semi-truck in Kingfisher County, Sunday morning.

It happened at about 7 a.m. on State Highway 51, just east of Sheridan Road.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 48-year-old Gary Todd Sanford was driving a 2007 Peterbilt, eastbound on State Highway 51, when he apparently fell asleep behind the wheel. The semi ran off the south side of the highway and overturned one and half times.

Sanford was thrown out of the truck during the crash. He was transported to Bass Hospital in Enid, where he was pronounced dead. Troopers say he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Troopers have listed the cause of the collision as "other improper act/movement – apparently sleepy" in the OHP collision report.
