A group of Rogers County residents started collecting signatures in Claremore for a petition to investigate several elected officials.

The group needs 3,000 signatures to impanel a grand jury.

The petition says District Attorney Janice Steidley has tampered with witnesses, wiretapped courthouse employees' phones and reported a false crime against someone who criticized her decision making.

The petition request also targets two Rogers County commissioners.

"There's a lot of excitement in the air, and you know you hear...be a good citizen and follow up," Claremore resident Alger Flood said.

Gayle Coppinger added, "I know quite a bit about the courthouse, and the need to have some people ...removed... let's put it that way."

All of the people named in the petition deny any wrongdoing and some of them welcome an investigation.

The group has 45 days to collect enough signatures.
