A Bartlesville woman faces eight charges of cruelty to animals after Washington County Sheriff's deputies found neglected horses and dogs on her land south of Bartlesville, August 16.

Julie Green, 61, was in court Wednesday and ordered held on $40,000 bond.

Sheriff's deputies said 10 horses and 5 dogs were found on property covered in weeds, brush and very little grass for them to eat.

In a probable cause affidavit, deputies said Green told them the condition of the horses and dogs "were not her fault and that Verdigris Valley Electric Company has been poisoning the animals." After consulting with a veterinarian, deputies seized the animals.

The vet said the horses only would have survived a few more months without intervention.
