Two people are dead after separate accidents near Lake Overholser on Saturday.

The first accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. According to police, emergency crews responded to the crash at N. County Line Rd. and S. Overholser Rd. One person was transported to the hospital after being hit by a truck. Police say the victim later died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.

Police say the truck driver called 911 following the accident.

The Children's Center's "Spin Your Wheels" bicycle tour event was also taking place at Lake Overholser at the time. News 9 reporter Michael Konopasek, who participated in the bicycle tour, said the cyclists had to be re-routed by Oklahoma City police due to the crime scene perimeter.

Police have identified the jogger as Robert Brady. The driver involved in the crash, Robert Hopkins, was arrested for driving without a valid license.

Then, around noon, Bethany Police confirmed that a bicyclist was hit by another truck at NW 39th Expressway eastbound and Overholser Dr. That person was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Bethany Police said the cyclist was riding on the shoulder when he lost control of the bike for some reason and drifted into the path of pickup truck. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

EMSA paramedics said this time of year they see an increase in these kinds of accidents as more people hit the road on bikes. A spokesperson said it was essential for drivers to keep a safe distance from runners and bicyclists that are on the road.

They issued a warning asking joggers and cyclists not to wear headphone and wear any protective gear, especially a helmet when riding bikes.
