A Bethany teenager is dead after a crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 40, just east of Henryetta.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 15-year-old Gwendolyn Hansen was riding in a car driven by 19-year-old Robert Paglia of Spencer. Another 16-year-old boy from Bethany was also in the car.

Troopers say Paglia was going east on I-40 when he tried to pass a semi by driving on the shoulder of the road. Paglia lost control, and his Ford Taurus veered off the road and hit a tree.

Hansen and the other passenger were pinned in the car for about 20 minutes and had to be freed by Henryetta firefighters, according to the report.

OHP says they were both admitted to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition, and Hansen later died from her injuries.

Troopers say Paglia refused treatment at the scene. According to the accident report, Paglia's condition was apparently normal.
