Law enforcement officials say two inmates overpowered a guard and escaped from the Wagoner County jail Monday.

The Wagoner County Sheriff says Larry Cotton, 35, and Mickey Staggs, 38, beat up the jailer, stole his keys and took off a little before 9 p.m.

Cotton is described as 6-foot-tall, 210 pounds. They say Staggs, who also goes by Skaggs, is 5-foot-6 and 170 pounds.

The sheriff's office said they ran off to the south of the jail.

Deputies have found both escapees' shoes and one set of clothes.

Staggs was in jail on two counts of possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, possession of a stolen property, and removing a proper or affixing an improper license plate, as well as failure to carry insurance.

Cotton is charged with possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, endangering others while attempting to elude police, possession of a stolen vehicle, knowingly concealing stolen property, and several other traffic related charges, including running a roadblock and failure to pay a toll.

According to Oklahoma Department of Corrections records, Cotton previously did time for possession of a controlled drug and larceny of an automobile. He was released in 2011.

Staggs, meanwhile, was incarcerated until 2006 for possession of a stolen vehicle, false impersonation and possession of a controlled drug.

If you spot them, call the Wagoner County Sheriff's Office at 918-485-3124.
