Neighbors in one metro subdivision are stunned, after someone torched two cars in a driveway and wrote a racial slur on the garage door. It happened overnight near SW 33rd and Morgan Rd.

The two cars are a total loss, and the family has placed plywood boards up to cover the racial slur until police can catch the people responsible. Both the family and neighbors are still in shock that this happened.

"You could see both cars on fire," said Christi Huff, who lives across the street. "The little dogs were sleeping through the whole thing, but the big dogs were going crazy out my office window."

It was 2 a.m. and when Christy saw the flames, she called out to her husband for help.

"So I immediately started screaming their house is on fire ‘Mike, Mike!'" recalls Huff.

Within minutes, police and fire arrived on the scene, after several neighbors called 911. And that's when everyone discovered it was the two cars, and not the house, that were on fire. And that a racial slur had been spray painted on the garage door.

"And when I saw that it just hurt my heart," said Huff. "I wanted to go out and paint it before they even saw it, because that's just rude and mean and hateful."

The Vietnamese homeowner was not home at the time, but his adult children were. They are now staying somewhere else while police investigate. And Huff says many families here have surveillance cameras outside their homes. She just hopes one of them caught a glimpse of who's responsible.

The family did not wish to talk on camera, but tell News 9 they don't know who could have done this or why. The family has lived in this house for years and they have never had any problems in the past.

Police tell us between June 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013 they have worked 17 hate crimes. If you have any information on this latest one, call OKC Crime Stoppers at (405) 235-7300.
